About Us

Building is who we are.

We started experimenting with woodworking in Hawaii over 15 years ago, with materials like Strawberry Guava, Bamboo and Accoya. This passion to build with woods that work well in Hawaii, evolved into our architectural millwork company, where we bring that same passion for woodworking to each of our clients projects.

Barret Werk | President

Barret is the designer and lead builder behind Werk Arts. His specialites include Woodwork, CNC Machining and the art of Finishing.

Why did you start Werk Arts? A lifetime interest in making wood into beautiful and functional pieces of art led me to my current work. Seeing my millwork projects in use is one of my greatest joy’s.

Experience: Apprenticed in door making under Bill Parks of Parks and Parks over 20 years ago and has been a professional woodworker since. Prior to that studied Studio Art at CSU Long Beach.

Early Influences: World Travel, with family flight benefits, Barret spent his early days learning about art, language and culture. Including: work abroad in Germany, language study in Barcelona, language study in Brazil, farm exchange in Australia and living in NYC to name a few.

What do you do when you’re not working? I love to be outdoors. Whether it be mountain biking, hiking or jumping in the ocean – it’s a good day.

Krystle Werk | Marketing Director

What made you join Werk Arts? Krystle started her career in photojournalism and eventually made her way to marketing because of her drive to tell stories. And Werk Arts has a great story to tell. The beauty of our final pieces and the way our clients connect with the work when a project is complete, continue to be her inspiration.

Experience: Krystle has been with Werk Arts for 5 years, working in all-things marketing. She’s also done a lot of community outreach with the bamboo innovation projects. Krystle received a degree in Communications from Temple University.

Influences: Documenting the human condition through her work in photojournalism.

What do you do when you’re not working? There’s really not enough hours in the day to talk about all of my hobbies, but currently I’m super into pottery, pickleball and raising chickens.
